Should You Eat Less on Rest Days?

A lot of people think that eating less on rest days from the gym can help accelerate their weight loss, but it’s important to remember that our bodies NEED enough nutrients to promote muscle repair and growth outside of the gym.

If your goal is weight loss, remember that weight loss is about maintaining an overall calorie deficit and it helps to keep calories somewhat consistent on rest and workout days to manage your hunger. You should eat similarly on both rest days & workout days. This is important because we need to:

  • Eat enough protein to ensure muscle growth & repair between sessions in the gym

  • Get plenty of carbohydrates for energy and fuel for the next training session

  • Drink enough water for proper hydration

  • Fuel yourself with nutrients to promote recovery With that being said, It’s also important not to go overboard and treat yourself with too many heavy calorie foods that don’t align with your goals on rest days (i.e. Cheat Days).

That will make your next training session feel even harder!
